Marriage and Family Therapist
Patricia O’Laughlin
I completed a dual M.A. Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Art Therapy from Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles so I could help people achieve balance in their often demanding lives. I whole heartedly believe that inner balance leads to people being truer to themselves and the people they love.
My Practice & Approach
For almost two decades I have treated clients with a wide range of challenges and therapy goals. My practice is based on acceptance and kindness. There is no room for judgment in productive psychotherapy.
Throughout the therapeutic process, you and I will work together to create a course that feeds your curiosity, builds upon your strengths, protects your well-being, and teaches you new techniques and tools that will help make coping with life’s demands easier. You will learn to identify what you want, what frustrations and changes you wish to make, and how to implement those changes. I will support you to be true to yourself and the people you love.
While the majority of my practice focuses on traditional “talk” therapy, I understand that this process can be intimidating for some people. I’ve worked in a number of alternative therapeutic models such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and art therapy. I have found EMDR to be valuable in treating a variety of mood disorders, trauma, and behavioral difficulties in women, men, children, adolescents, and families. Art therapy allows an expressive outlet for people who have trouble finding the words to explain how they are feeling.
I also am trained in Executive Functioning disorders. Executive functions are the skills that help us plan, initiate, and complete goals. By using specific strategies and technology we can work together to decrease procrastination and failing to achieve.
While people come to me for help with a variety of issues, I have particular expertise in these areas:
Depression
Anxiety
Relationship difficulties
Infidelity
Career challenges
Parenting (Psychology of Parenting)
ADHD/Learning Differences (learning disabilities)
Self Esteem
Alcohol and drug addiction
Grief counseling
Stress management
